Set Free (Faith vs Science) - HeeSun Lee feat. Chris Belmont

One of the recurring themes in “Lost” is the ideological battle between Dr. Jack Shephard, a “man of science” who only accepts practical, tangible solutions to problems, and John Locke, a “man of faith” who believes that not everything in life can be easily explained or understood.

In our society’s ongoing culture war, some “people of science” treat members of faith communities like unsophisticated sheep clinging to religious fairy tales. Conversely, there are many “people of faith” who marginalize and reject nonbelievers as intellectual elitists out of touch with real values. And, in our own lives, all of us often wrestle with accepting truths that are outside of our control.

HeeSun Lee’s lyrics explore the argument from both sides; she saves her personal conclusion for the last verse. We like Chris Belmont’s track, too – he uses an ill synth riff to good effect to immediately grab the listener’s attention on the intro.
